Tony Bennett 'Duets II'

Tony Bennett featuring Lady Gaga
Tony Bennett’s new release, Duets II, has debuted at the #1 position on Billboard’s top albums chart, with 179,000 units sold in the first week. The album has remained in the top 5 on iTunes’ album chart in the U.S. and other countries since its release. Digital albums represented 20% of overall sales, the highest for any Bennett album to date. It has been reported that, at age 85, Bennett now becomes the oldest artist ever to top the trade publication’s album chart. The album includes duets with the late Amy Winehouse, Lady Gaga, Willie Nelson, Aretha Franklin, Michael BublĂ© and several other top artists. (http://jazztimes.com)

The lineup on Tony Bennett's Duets II (out Sept. 20) is the musical equivalent of a dominant fantasy sports team: It's a veritable Murderer's Row of statistical monsters. At 85, Bennett himself is one of the best-selling and most lavishly rewarded singers alive, and he's surrounded here by performers who measure their Grammy collections in armloads. Norah Jones. Sheryl Crow. Aretha Franklin. John Mayer. You'd almost think Bennett's 17 guests were cast based on number of Grammys won, until you notice the conspicuous absence of Alison Krauss, Bonnie Raitt and Metallica.
